With Black Friday nearly upon us it’s easy to get caught up in all the sale shopping madness. Without a clear plan of what to buy, endless sales deals, overcrowded stores and long checkout ques its easy to feel overwhelmed and overspend on things you don’t really need. However when shopped correctly Black Friday provides the perfect opportunity to update your wardrobe and home with key pieces that will have you stylishly set for the year. Here is my Guide to Shopping Black Friday like a Fashion Stylist…
Like nearly all women I have experienced insecurities around my weight. Over my developing years my body has been skinny, it has been overweight and it has been everything in between.
During periods of being skinny I would go to the gym religiously and constantly monitor what I was eating, living on a sort of permanent diet that didn’t leave much room for indulgences. Often if I did give myself a cheat day or a little treat I would feel immediately guilty, and feel the need to schedule a workout time later to appease myself.
The times I have been overweight were due to a hectic lifestyle while studying and not having the time to fit in a healthy eating plan and exercise routine around busy school schedules. Due to lack of time I would be more lenient with myself about what I was eating, on the basis of choosing the more convenient option over the healthier one. However it was always in the back of my mind that I needed to loose weight, and striving to one day eventually maintain skinniness seemed like a big priority.
The first days of October welcome the real start of Fall for us here in Milan. The days start getting shorter and the weather starts getting colder. And it’s during this time of the year that I start spending less time traveling and more time snuggled up on the sofa reading books and drinking tea.
I love to use this time of year to read some books that will inspire and educate me, especially on the subject of Style and Fashion, so I am able to offer the best possible advise to my Styling clients and cultivate some interesting ideas for future photo shoots for the coming season.
Here are three books on my reading list for the coming month. Let me know if you’ve read them and what you think of these reads in the comments below…
Have you ever gone through a busy period of life, when you are in full on work mode, with your head down, only to take a break and realize the time has flown by?! Well that’s what has happened to me this month!
All of Spring I worked flat out, organizing photo shoots and planning projects with new clients. It was all go go go. I loved it because I worked on some amazing projects and collaborated with some really talented people. But then I had a pause, looked around and I realized it’s June, nearly July! And summer is already upon us!
When you are busy its easy to fall into the rut of throwing on your Levi’s Jeans and sneakers, running out the door and working through your to do list each day. And before we know it, its going to be autumn. I don’t want the next few months to fly by before I know what has hit me so I’ve decided to make it my mission to live more stylishly this summer. That means making the most out of my days, enjoying the little moments and, of course, upping my style game. Because even if we are just running errands that’s no reason not to look stylish right!? So here are my top tips for how to live stylish this summer.
I have done yoga on and off since I was a teenager. While traveling I attended classes when we visited beach towns and hippie villages and I always loved my experiences but I was never able to seriously commit. Then one year ago, when walking through the park near my house, I discovered an evening yoga class going on and decided to sign up.
Since that point I have made Yoga a big part of my life and made a commitment to a healthy lifestyle. My teacher, Elena, is incredible and not only do we learn Hatha Yoga for fitness and strength, we also study Vinyasa (or flow) Yoga, Meditation, Mantra, Chakras and Breathing. I now love to take part in Yoga seminars and retreats to push my body and learn more. For the lovely ones of you who follow me on Instagram you saw that yesterday I attended an amazing lesson all about Thai Yoga and how yoga poses can be used to release aches and pains – so amazing!
I only started a year ago, so I still have a lot to learn, but it is amazing to reflect and see how much growth I have made in such a small space of time, because I honestly think starting Yoga has been one of the best things I have ever done.
January can be a bit of a hit and miss month for me. I can either feel really incredible about the start of a new year and all the cool things I want to achieve and do, or I can feel really flat that the holiday season is over and I have another three months of boring winter stretching out in front of me.
I am happy to say this year its the first one for me. 2015 was a really exciting year because I took a really big step in my fashion career and started my own business as a freelance stylist and for 2016 I have a long list of things I want to do to build my business. I can’t wait to get started and I feel really excited about all the possibilities. But I know this isn’t the case for everyone. Going back to work, starting a post-holiday diet and trying not to give up on resolutions can get us all a bit down. So I decided to share with your some ideas to make yourself feel amazing this January. Whether you have those january blues or not we should all try to make ourselves feel as amazing as possible…
As I sit writing this post I am snuggled up on my sofa with a hot cup of tea because there is TORRENTIAL rain outside. Its looking really cold and really grey and really wet. Living in Italy means I have not seen weather like this for a while and I am taking its presence as a sign autumn is definitely on its way.
I actually really like the start of Autumn because I think it brings with it a sense of renewing and restarting after a long summer break – I still get that ‘back to school’ feeling – and I love seeing the autumn colours in the trees. (See my Ciao Milano post for 20 reasons I am happy for autumn in milan.) But I admit, as the evenings start to creep in earlier and the weather starts to turn bad I do sometimes get a pang for summer to return.
If you feel the same then here is my list of fun ways to beat September Blues…
Well friends, summer holidays have officially ended and it is time to get back to work. In the past I sometimes found this time of the year a little flat. I would have had an amazing summer full of adventures and fun and then suddenly it would end and I would be returning home, back to my part time waitressing job or university classes. But not this year.
This September marks the two year anniversary of my moving to Milan! And as our Sri Lanka adventures drew to a close I felt genuinely excited to be returning here. Living in a foreign city does feel a bit like living on a extended holiday because there are always new things for me to experience and enjoy. I love Milan because there are so many cool things happening in the city and the longer I live here the more it is starting to feel like a home away from home.
Here are the reasons I love being back…
